Newsletter July 2016

cropped-AHSSA-logo-1.jpgDear Members

NEWSLETTER JULY 2016

It is high time that we advise you, the members of the Arab Horse Society of South Africa, what is happening with our Society.

1. CONSTITUTION
We have at last had preliminary acceptance of our Constitution, and we are awaiting final approval from the Registrar.

We hope to have the good news by the end of next week, whereafter we will send out another newsletter to advise members of the next step. To get our Society back up and running, we need to have a full Council to deal with the day to day today functioning at a national and provincial level.

It has been a long slog to get the Constitution approved but I can say with a great deal of certainty that there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel!

For this I must thank all members for their patience and support.

2. STAFF CHANGES
We are delighted to welcome a new staff member onto the team after Charmaine left the Society just over a month or so ago.

JC van den Berg has been instrumental in obtaining the services of a Senior secretary, Daleen du Preez, who has extensive experience with Horse Societies, and a high attendance record at the office. The changes have been made in order to make your work flow more easily and give a better turn around time.

Daleen has been working for the Saddlers for a number of years and is a welcome addition. She will deal with all the same matters that Charmaine did, with Marike still in charge of her duties at the office.

The secretaries’ job allocation & contact details are attached here.

3. CEM
We are still battling this scourge that is CEM and I am sure you are all well aware of my stance on the matter. Once we have our Constitution in place, we will take this issue up with renewed energy, but I am glad to report as per previous correspondence that a CEM test is only necessary every second year now.

It is sad to note that not a single horse that is not registered with a registering authority has ever been tested for CEM, an indictment on the manner in which we as stud breeders have been treated by the “powers” that be.

4. ARAB FLAT RACING
We have not been sitting on our laurels here, and we have today enjoyed a very positive discussion with Mr Mark Gordon who is going to assist us in getting this project off the ground. I strongly believe that Arab Flat Racing will breathe new life into the industry of racing and be a huge boost for the breed in general.

We will be mindful of keeping you informed of the latest developments herein as I am personally very excited about the very real prospects of Arab Flat Racing taking off in South Africa.

5. STUD BOOK FEES
Stud Book tried to impose an increase to our fees again this year with the result that I took a unilateral decision to refuse any such hike in the fees we already are being charged. It is important to note that we are not part of an association, and that a vote by the other Breed Societies accepting a percentile increase does not mean that such an increase should be binding on us, despite what we have been told.

The Secretariat has revealed a contract which has never been brought to my attention, and never signed by any past President of the Society. This agreement is hereto attached for all to scrutinise. In it I note that the Secretariat indicates in the agreement that they will arrange a National Show for our Society every 4 years. I’m sure you’ll agree this has never been the case.

I urge all members to scrutinise their accounts from Stud Book, to ensure you know exactly what every fee is before making payment directly. And until further notice, you should refrain from paying any invoice from that charges you a R65.00 Admin Fee and R125.00 Deelnaam fooi. Please feel free to contact me should you have any queries.

6. E-MAILS
We have implemented a new e-mail system, to make our communication & marketing more effective, using our own arabhorse.co.za domain name. The secretaries will now have dedicated addresses for registrations & memberships, and every regional representative – once elected – will also have an arabhorse.co.za e-mail address, ie eastern.cape@arabhorse.co.za.

Furthermore, there are now e-mail addresses for specific annual events, to make the organising of shows and rides easier, ie nationals@arabhorse.co.za or royalshow@arabhorse.co.za.

You can find the full list of new addresses here. If you have any suggestions of other useful ones, please contact Lucy Dixon on info@arabhorse.co.za

7. CONCLUSION
Congratulations to all our members who had a successful Fauresmith 2016.

Please also note that should anyone have any issue that I am freely available on my mobile phone at 082 732 5200, and on email president@arabhorse.co.za

Let us hope that my next letter, informing you all of the dates of our Provincial meetings, will be following shortly.

Kind Regards,

Wes Hayes
President
Arab Horse Society of South Africa

NUUSBRIEF Julie 2016

3. CEM

4. ARAB ‘FLAT RACING’

Vriendelike groete,

Wes Hayes
President
Arabierperdgenootskap van Suid-Afrika
