AHSSA

Arab Horse Society of South Africa

The Arab Horse Society of South Africa is the breed society for the pure bred Arab, Anglo Arab, and part-bred Arab horses in South Africa. The AHSSA was constituted in 1961 and is a member of the WAHO and affiliated to the SA Studbook.

Founded on 22 October 1960, the Arab Horse Society of South Africa was born out of a deep passion for the Arabian horse. Inspired by the elegance, grace, and endurance of this ancient breed, Mrs. Charmaine Grobbelaar, the Societyโ€™s first president, played a key role in establishing the Society after her own unforgettable encounter with an Arabian horse.

The Arabian horse, known for its distinctive beauty, intelligence, and remarkable endurance, has a rich history in South Africa, with the first purebred Arabian arriving in 1891. Since its founding, the Arab Horse Society has grown to become the largest breed society affiliated with the South African Stud Book.

Today, we continue to preserve the heritage and legacy of the Arabian horse, ensuring the breed thrives in South Africa. Our members from across the country are represented by council members, ensuring every voice is heard.

For over 64 years, the Arab Horse Society of South Africa has been dedicated to supporting and promoting the breeding, registration, and appreciation of the Arabian horse.

Our Mission
