Change of Ownership Process
There are two options for processing a change of ownership of a horse:
Option 1: Original Registration Certificate
The original Registration Certificate must be completed on the reverse side (back of the certificate) and sent to the office with proof of payment.
Ensure the following details are completed on the back:
Date of transfer (dd/mm/yy)
Buyerโs name, address, email, and cell number
Sellerโs (current owner) signature
Option 2: “Change of Ownership” Form
The current owner can complete the “Change of Ownership” form available on the AHSSA website and submit it to the office with proof of payment.
Important Information:
1. The seller is responsible for the transfer fee.
2. Transfer applications must be submitted within 30 days of the horseโs delivery. Late applications (up to 90 days) will incur additional fees. Applications after 90 days require Council approval and additional charges.
3. If the horse is in foal, a service certificate must be provided.
4. For stallions used for semen collection, the buyer, society, and registry must be informed about the amount of semen collected and its current owner.
5. If the seller refuses to complete the transfer, the Council may intervene, with extra fees applied to the buyer.
6. Transfers between family members are subject to half the prescribed transfer fees.
7. Ownership change is recognized when a horse is sold, exchanged, donated, inherited, or a partnership is dissolved.
