Requirements for Artificial Insemination (AI)

1. Stallion Permit:
> The stallion must be registered as a Semen Donor with AHSSA.
> A permit is required for each stallion used for AI and must be renewed annually.
> The stallionโ€™s DNA profile must be recorded with the Society.
> Stallion Donor Application Forms are available on the AHSSA website.

2. Record Keeping:
> Stallion owners must maintain a register including:
– Stallion’s name
– Collection dates
– Number of doses stored
– Names of mares inseminated and insemination dates
– Details of transported or frozen semen and recipient mares

3. Frozen Semen:
> Frozen semen can be stored indefinitely if the stallion had a valid permit at the time of collection.
> Imported semen must meet all relevant regulations, and the donor stallion must have a valid permit.

4. Mare Requirements:
Mares must have their DNA profile recorded with the Society before insemination.

5. Reporting:
A Semen Collection Report must be submitted with each insemination, detailing the stallion, mare, and insemination date. Copies should be kept by the mare owner and submitted to the Society.

6. Foal Registration:
> All foals produced via AI must have parentage verified through DNA testing before registration.
> Registration applications must include an Artificial Insemination Service Certificate from the stallionโ€™s owner.

7. Forms and Fees:
> All necessary forms and fee schedules are available on the AHSSA website. Fees are subject to change by the Society’s Council.
> The Society may refuse to register foals if the rules and regulations are not followed.
