Process for Registering Progeny

When a Stallion Dies Before CEM Test or Certificate Expiry

The progeny can still be registered through a formal written exception granted by the Department of Animal Health (DAH).

Process:
1. A CEM test must be conducted on the foal requiring registration.
2. A CEM test must be conducted on the mare (dam) of the foal.
3. If the dam is deceased, the mare owner must provide a letter confirming the mare’s death and the date of death.
4. The stallion owner must provide a letter confirming the stallion’s death and the date of death.
5. Submit the CEM-negative results and deceased letters via email to the office.
6. The Secretary will compile the “Pre-breeding CEM Clearance Certification applicationโ€ and send it to the State Veterinarian: Disease Control for the Director of Animal Health.
7. The DAH will process the application for approval.
8. If the exemption is approved, the Director will send the approved exemption to the Society.
9. If the exemption is not approved, DAH will contact the Society with feedback on the application.

When a Stallion is Gelded Before CEM Test

A CEM test can still be conducted on a gelding. Have your veterinarian conduct the CEM test on the gelding and submit the CEM-negative certificate to the office. Once received, the progeny can be registered.
