Requirements for Artificial Insemination Using Transported or Stored Semen
Foals conceived using transported or stored semen in South Africa may be eligible for registration if the following conditions are met:
1. Semen Transportation Permit:
A Semen Transportation Permit must be issued for the stallion and is valid until ownership changes or the stallion is exported.
The stallion owner must inform the Society annually if the stallion will be used for transported or stored semen.
To obtain the permit:
> Submit a completed application form signed by the registered owner or authorized person.
> Ensure the stallionโs DNA profile is on record with the Registry.
> Pay the required fee.
If semen is collected, stored, or transported without a permit, a Late Permit Fee will apply, and penalties may be imposed.

2. Transported/Stored Semen Certificate:
o A valid Semen Transportation Permit is required to purchase this certificate, which is necessary to register foals conceived with transported or stored semen. (Forms available on the AHSSA website).
The certificate can only be issued if:
> A Semen Transportation Permit is in effect.
> A completed application form is submitted.
> The required fee is paid.
3. Foal Registration:
To register a foal conceived with transported or stored semen, submit:
> A completed registration application form signed by the registered owner or authorized person.
> A valid Transported/Stored Semen Service Certificate with the registration application.
