Registration Procedures For A Purebred Arabian Horse

Important Reminder: To register Arabian horses, you must be a registered member. Birth notification must be submitted to the Society within one year of the foal’s birth.

Step 1 – DNA Parentage Verification
Collect a hair sample and submit it for DNA testing. The required forms can be found on the AHSSA website under the “Documents” section.

Step 2 – Gather Necessary Documents
Depending on your situation, the following documents may be required:

Lease Letter for Mare: If you do not own the mare at the time of foaling, a Lease Letter from the mare’s owner is required. The Lease Letter form can be found on the AHSSA website under the “Documents” section.

Covering Certificates: If the mare was covered by a stallion not owned by you, include one of the following:
> Natural Covering: Service Certificate (available on the AHSSA website).
> Artificial Insemination (AI): If AI was used on the breeder’s own mare and stallion, an AI Certificate (Vet letter confirming the procedure) is required.
> AI with Transported/Stored Semen: A Transported/Stored Semen Certificate/Permit is required, along with the Semen Collection, Shipping Form, and Insemination Report. (available on the AHSSA website).
The stallion’s owner must be a member in good standing with the AHSSA.

Step 3 – Birth Notification
Complete the Birth Notification form, which can be found on the AHSSA website under the “Forms” section. Ensure all markings on the foal are accurately detailed using the Identification, Color, and Markings Guide.

Step 4 – Submit Application
Submit the completed Birth Notification form, all necessary documents, and proof of payment to the AHSSA Secretary. Be sure to include proof of payment.

Step 5 – Secretary Verification
The Secretary will verify that the stallion’s breeding reports are up to date and confirm the DNA parentage verification once the results are received from Onderstepoort. If all information is correct, the foal’s registration will be submitted to Studbook for the issuance of a registration certificate.
The newly issued certificate will be sent to the breeder after final verification.
