Requirements for Using an Outside Stud Stallion for Breeding

Before breeding your mare with any stallion, it is important to ensure that the stallion is registered as a Breeding Stallion and that all his certificates are up to date. You can request this information directly from the stallion owner or contact the AHSSA office to verify.

It is important to check if the stallion owner is a member of the AHSSA. If the stallion owner is not a member, a transfer of ownership of the stallion will need to be done in your name at the time of the covering in order to register the foal. You can contact the AHSSA office to verify the membership status of the stallion owner or to assist with the transfer process if needed.

Natural Covering:
> The stallion owner must provide you with a Service Certificate for the covering.
> This Service Certificate should be submitted with the birth notification form to the AHSSA office to register the foal.
> The Service Certificate can be found on the AHSSA website under the “Documents” section.

Artificial Insemination (AI) with Transported or Stored Semen:
> A Transported/Stored Semen Certificate/Permit is required.
> The Semen Collection, Shipping Form, and Insemination Report must also be submitted with the birth notification form to the AHSSA office for foal registration.
> These forms are available on the AHSSA website under the “Documents” section.

Important to Note:
The stallion must be registered as a Semen Donor with the Society.
